The Springfield Utility Board will be holding public hearings in November and December regarding the proposed 2021 Budget and a proposed water rate increase. The first public hearings for the proposed budget and proposed rates was held at the virtual regular Board meeting on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. The purpose of these first public hearings is to gather public input. No action was taken at the November 18 Board meeting. The second and final public hearings will be held at the regular Board meeting on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Following the public hearings in December, the Board will consider adoption of the proposed 2021 Budget and consider adoption of a water rate increase. The November 18, and December 9, regular Board meetings will begin at approximately 6:00 p.m. and the public hearings will be held under Business from the Board.
Due to increased capital and operating costs, SUB is proposing an overall water rate increase of 5 percent. All customer classes would experience a rate increase under the proposal. The increase is proposed to take effect for service as of January 1, 2021, on all billing statements rendered on or after February 1, 2021, for such service.
The proposed budget and proposed water rate increase will be available for public review prior to the public hearings when ready. The public is invited to join the public hearings during the regular Board meetings, via phone or internet. Instructions to join will be available on SUB’s website, prior to the virtual meetings.
If joining the meetings/public hearings, the public will be prompted for comment during the meetings. The public may also submit public comment in advance, to be entered into the record, via email to email@example.com by Noon on December 9.
