December 22, 2020 – The Springfield Utility Board will hold a public hearing regarding a proposed sale of property to the City of Springfield. The public hearing will be held by the Board during its regular meeting on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at approximately 6:00 p.m. The purpose of the public hearing is for SUB’s Board to hear testimony in regard to the proposed sale of properties owned by the Springfield Utility Board at 226, 228, 230, 236 and 240 Main Street, Springfield, Oregon, near the juncture of Main Street and Pioneer Parkway East to the City of Springfield. The sale would be part of the consideration of a proposed agreement with the City to allow SUB to purchase property at 245 A Street, presently a parking lot, owned by the City.

 

It is SUB’s understanding that the property sold to the City would assist the City and the City’s Urban Renewal District in its economic development effort for Downtown Springfield. The property would be sold to the City or the City’s designee. Any public hearing related to the use or the sale of the property sold by the City would be a separate process conducted by the City.

 

The parking lot property currently owned by the City is directly adjacent to and east of existing property owned by SUB (SUB Annex). The report by SUB Staff which will be presented to the Board in support of the proposed property transaction, is that the acquisition of the parking lot would provide for a more efficient use of properties owned by SUB. The public hearing related to this public notice is limited to SUB sale of SUB property and the purpose and conditions of the sale to the City. During the public hearing, all interested persons may offer comment on the issue. Following the public hearing, the Board may decide whether the property is needed for continued public use or may be sold in accordance with the proposed agreement with the City.

 

The public is invited to join the public hearing during the regular board meeting via the internet. All interested persons will be prompted for comment at the appropriate time during the meeting. The public may also join via phone in audio only mode. Instructions to join will be available on SUB’s website, prior to the virtual meeting. The public may also submit comment in advance, to be entered into the record, via email to subboard@subutil.com by Noon on January 13.
