The Springfield Utility Board plans to hold the following public hearings in November and December: due to increased capital and operating costs SUB is proposing an overall 8.0 percent (8.0%) water rate increase with a proposed effective date January 1, 2023 on all bill statements rendered on or after February 1, 2023; a proposed 3.0 percent (3.0%) electric rate increase with a proposed effective date April 1, 2023 on all bill statements rendered on or after May 1, 2023, and a proposed 2.5 percent (2.5%) dark fiber rate increase with a proposed effective date on all bill statements rendered on or after May 1, 2023, for services on or after May 1, 2023; and a public hearing on SUB’s proposed 2023 Utility Budget.
The first public hearings will be held during the regular Board meeting on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. The purpose of the first public hearings is to gather public input. No action will be taken at the November 9 Board meeting. The second and final public hearings will be held during the regular Board meeting on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Following the second public hearings at the December meeting, the Board is expected to consider adoption of the proposed water, electric, and dark fiber rate increases for 2023, and adoption of the proposed 2023 Budget. The November 9 and December 14 regular Board meetings will be held in SUB’s Board Room located in the Annex Building at 223 A Street in Springfield, and will begin at approximately 6:00 p.m. The public hearings will be held under Business from the Board portion of the meetings.
Information on the proposed budget and proposed rate increases will be available for public review prior to the meeting on SUB’s website at www.subutil.com. Members of the public are invited to join the regular Board meeting and public hearings to share input with the Board remotely via phone or internet or in-person.
