Annual Light of Liberty July 4th Celebration Canceled for 2020

Springfield, Ore. – May 13, 2020 – Springfield Utility Board announced today it has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Light of Liberty Celebration.

“We didn’t come to this conclusion lightly,” said Meredith Clark, community relations manager for the utility, “but out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and safety of event attendees, vendors, volunteers, and staff.”

This long-standing, popular event has become an annual tradition in Springfield, with more than 6,000 attendees congregating in Island Park for a family-friendly day of music, kids’ activities, food, and fireworks.

“We love planning the event for our community and look forward to its return next year,” she said, adding that SUB is looking into alternate summer festivities that will celebrate the summer in a way that works with state and local health and safety guidelines.

SUB is a community-owned electricity and water provider serving the residents and businesses of Springfield, Oregon, and surrounding areas.
