Get Your Meter Ready for a Visit!
SUB meter readers will be out in neighborhoods across our service area over the next few months as part of our routine maintenance or Meter Access Program (MAP).
Even if your home has an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) meter — which is usually read remotely — meter readers will still need to check the meter in person. Per SUB policy, access is required continuously.
This manual verification allows SUB to ensure that meters are accessible and in good condition, so you are billed accurately for your electric usage. Your assistance and cooperation are greatly appreciated.
To do their work safely and efficiently, meter readers need clear access at all times.
How You Can Help
- Due to work volume, appointment times are not available. Meter readers will read your area between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- If SUB’s meter is located behind a gate with a lock NOT provided by SUB, please leave the gate unlocked or provide a key so we may access our meter.
- If you have a dog or other animals in your yard, please secure them or relocate them for the day to ensure meter reader safety and/or to prevent your pet(s) from getting out.
- If access cannot be made available on the scheduled date, contact SUB’s Meter Reading Department in advance at 541-744-3795.
- Should access be denied on the date specified, a $20 access fee may be assessed monthly to your account until resolved.

Keep the Area Around Meters Safe & Clear
You can help by making sure meters have 3 feet of clearance on all sides, and:
- Walkways and decks leading to the meter are clear of clutter.
- Plants and shrubs are trimmed back.
- Pets are safely indoors or leashed or kept indoors on meter-reading days.
- Gates are unlocked on meter-reading days.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I need to keep my gate locked?
If your meter is behind a gate that must remain locked, call us at (541) 744-3795 to request a free courtesy gate lock. This lock can be opened only by you and SUB staff.
How will I know the person at my home is with SUB?
Your safety matters to us. All SUB field employees carry official ID, and meter readers wear distinctive shirts and jackets. If someone is on your property and says they are from SUB, feel free to ask for their ID or call us at 541-744-3795 to verify.
Can I get notified of my meter reading day in advance?

SUB will also be sending letters, texts, and calls to customers in the days & weeks leading up to their Meter Access Program visit.
