Springfield Utility Board is making important upgrades to our electric system to better serve homes and businesses throughout Springfield. We’ll be actively working in your area soon, and wanted to share more about the project.
Project overview
SUB is building a new substation in Glenwood, sited at the East end of E. 22nd Avenue. As part of this project, SUB will be adding new 20.8kV power lines to recently upgraded utility poles. We will be extending new distribution lines in two areas, following the existing overhead wireline path:
- West along East 22nd Avenue to Henderson Avenue
- North on Henderson Avenue to East 19th Avenue
These upgrades are part of a larger effort to provide additional resiliency to our service territory and to prepare for future growth.
Project benefits
- Improves service for about 800 current homes and businesses in Glenwood
- Makes room for future growth, supporting new homes and businesses in the area
- Boosts reliability for nearby neighborhoods, including West Centennial and Downtown Springfield
Project timeline
- Underway: SUB crews are doing survey work, marking utility locations,procuring material, and securing permits
- In the next few weeks: Underground work will begin, and we’ll be installing new utility poles
- By the end of 2026: New lines will be installed. Please note that there will some limited outages during the switch to the upgraded lines.
