SUB is testing our emergency text system on Tuesday, December 17th. If you have a cell phone on your SUB account, you should receive a text on Tuesday. This is only a test and requires no action on your part.

Emergency alerts are for fast moving events such as public safety power outages (i.e. due to wildfire) or boil water notices that affect large geographic areas. If you would like to sign up for alerts, you can do so anytime at SUB Customer Emergency Contact Form – Springfield Utility Board. However, only accounts that have been updated by noon Monday, December 16th will be included in this test.

Questions? Visit subutil.com

*Will there be enhancements to the text notifications?

At a minimum, we will be adding a Spanish message to the text. Customer feedback will be incorporated into the refinements, and we appreciate your comments.

*What if I don’t have a cell phone. How will I get notified?

In an emergency, SUB is prepared to send text messages to those with cell phones AND to send IVR voice messages to those with landlines. Because we use our IVR system regularly for notifications, we are only testing the texting system.

*What if I missed the deadline for giving you my cell phone for the text system?

The deadline is only for the test. You may update your information anytime using the link above.

*During the ice storm, I didn’t have access to the internet, a cell phone or a landline. How am I supposed to get messages if that happens again?

Our goal is to expand the variety of ways we can reach people in an emergency. The City is also developing tools that will aid in the event that communication systems are impaired.
