Sustainable landscape training for regional landscapers has been set for January 22 & 23, 2009 at Lane Community College, 4000 East 30th Avenue, Eugene for any and all people involved in landscaping or working to maintain sustainable landscapes. We have applied for continuing education credits. The cost for the two day session is $110. Registration is through Lane Community College, Business Development Center, 1445 Willamette St, Suite 1, Eugene, OR 97401 or call Julie at 541-463-4615.
The purpose of this training is to teach landscape professionals how to develop and maintain sustainable/green/ecological landscapes. Topics to be covered include water efficiency, mulching/composting, 'positive' wildlife habitat, yard pests, containment strategies, planting the right plant-right place, proper fertilizer applications, storm-water runoff options and streamside care, and lawn care. Expected outcomes include: improving water quality, reducing the use of pesticides (organic or conventional), improving soil quality, reducing erosion, building soil biology, and improving the quality and quantity of groundwater. Other benefits will be lower power, water and waste bills due to more efficient use of resources, and a reduced flow of organic matter into the landfill.
