Where does SUB's power come from?

SUB purchases all its electricity from Bonneville Power Administration, an agency created by Congress to sell electricity generated from the federal government's hydroelectric dams on the Columbia River. From there, it travels to one of SUB's eight substations, where it is distributed along more than 4,600 transformers and 400 miles of powerlines to 30,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers.

Where does SUB's water come from?

The majority of your water comes from a system of seven wellfields that tap groundwater from a vast aquifer that lies underneath Springfield. Supplementing this is water drawn from the Middle Fork Willamette River. From these two sources, the water is pumped through 240 miles of distribution lines to SUB's 56,000-plus water consumers. SUB also owns and maintains six pumping stations and seven reservoirs.

What should I do in the event of an outage?

Outages can be caused by many things, but usually happen in the stormy fall and winter months when hazardous weather can down power lines, or cause traffic accidents that can do the same. Luckily, outages are relatively rare at SUB and tend to last minutes or hours, not days. Still, being prepared for being without for longer is always advisable. For more information click here.
