Springfield Utility Board

Call Before You Dig

Before you dig more than foot below ground in your yard, be sure to find out where your underground lines and pipes are first. Just call 8-1-1 two days before you plan to dig, and at no charge to you, utility companies with underground services on your property will come to mark where those underground utilities are located. This includes telephone, cable, gas, water, and electric. The location will be marked with different colors depending on the utility.

This service is free, and it’s also the law. If you don’t call to find out where your underground lines are located and a line gets broken, you may be billed for the cost of repairs. Most of all, calling before dig will keep you safe!
