Ditch your street shoes, dig out your flip flops and head to Island Park this July 4th for Light of Liberty: Springfield’s best summer surf party.

Now in its fifth year, Light of Liberty is a fundraiser featuring music, food, family fun – and, of course, a fabulous fireworks show set to music and reflected over the scenic Willamette River.

This year, SUB and its corporate sponsors are proud to welcome Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Nokie Edwards from the legendary surf band The Ventures. Fans and new comers alike will tap their toes to such memorable hits as “Hawaii 5-0” and “Walk Don’t Run.”

Nokie has deep roots in the Willamette Valley - this national treasure called Elmira home until just last year. He’ll be performing with local country sensation Amy Clawson, whose vocals have earned her acclaim across the Northwest. Opening for Nokie will be the acapella group The Tones as well as rock oldies from Mystery Train.

Kids will have plenty to do when they visit our Kid Nation, sponsored by Jerry’s Home Improvement Center. Check out crafts, face painting, a great snake exhibit, a planetarium show, magic shows, gymnastics demonstrations, and more!

Tickets for this day full of fun are just $5 in advance (starting June 23rd) and $7 at the door. Pick up advance tickets at SUB’s main office in downtown Springfield, or at Jerry’s Home Improvement Center at their Eugene and Springfield locations. As always, kids five and younger are free. As a show of support to our military, tickets are also free for Springfield veterans, as well as active duty Springfield military personnel, their spouses and children. These tickets are available at SUB in advance, or at the main gate on event day. Be sure to bring current military ID.

All proceeds benefit Project Share, a fund that helps low- and fixed-income Springfielders with wintertime heating emergencies. So come, have a great time, and know that your dollars are helping those in need!
